About Duty society
The Duty Society (Anjuman-Al-Farz) was established in 1889 by M.A.O. College alumnus Sahabzada Aftab Ahmad Khan during Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s lifetime. Its primary goal was to create a permanent fund to support poor and needy students of M.A.O. College. The society raised funds through community tours and initiatives, clarifying misconceptions about Sir Syed and encouraging education. The first delegation visited Agra in 1890, followed by Saharanpur, generating funds for student welfare. Notable contributions include building a free boarding house, now part of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Eminent scholars like Prof. T.W. Arnold and Dr. Zakir Hussain played key roles in its progress. The post of President was introduced in 1975, with Alhaj Obaidur Rehman Khan Sherwani serving as the first President. Today, the Duty Society remains active in supporting AMU and its students.
